About Me
Short story!
Hi! I’m Kelly! I started Hazenna Inspired in 2021, I design crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns, and I started tech editing in 2022.
Long story!
I grew up in Michigan, USA and stayed there (mostly, with a few stints working / studying in other states / countries) until I finished my mechanical engineering degree from Michigan State University (Go Green!). I then moved to Sydney, Australia to be with an amazing Aussie guy I met (now my husband!) while I was studying abroad a few years earlier. I completed an engineering science masters degree at UNSW in Sydney before we moved up to Newcastle. We have been living here ever since and we love it! We have 2 beautiful daughters, Hazel and Sienna (can you figure out how I came up with my business name?!).
I worked as a control systems engineer for quite a few years, but I have been on extended maternity leave since Sienna was born in early 2020. When Hazel started preschool in 2021, I felt like it was time to start working again, but I wasn’t ready to put Sienna in day care and go back to working in an office. With the inspiration from a few friends, I decided to create my own crochet business. I spent the first few months trying to sell finished products on Etsy, but quickly decided that wasn’t for me. I then designed my first crochet pattern and knew that was a better path.
Designing crochet patterns has allowed me to expand my creativity, use my attention to detail, and use my technical background. The result is a well thought out pattern that I hope all crocheters will enjoy making and all recipients will treasure forever. I love designing using stitch charts and graphs to visualise how the design will look and how it will all fit together. I also love working with spreadsheets to grade patterns.
I love using my attention to detail, my technical skills, and my knowledge of crochet to help other pattern designers to create accurate, marketable patterns. See my tech editing page for more information on the services I offer!
